One of my best friends has quite a bit of spare land around her and is a big lover of animals. She has 2 dogs a horse some chickens and a turkey!
Yes, A turkey - now I can understand all the others - fresh eggs from the chickens, pleasure in riding the horse and taking the dogs for a walk and abit of love returned as after all they are mans best friend - but a Turkey for heavens sake.
Actually, there’s a point here I’ve not seen it for a while I wonder if it was Christmas dinner last year?

I’ve never really understood the concept of owning a fish - specially one which is on it’s own and swims around in a bowl all day.
Now, the big tanks which are built into a wall - something like you’d see in a James Bond film, look really cool, but you need a massive house to acheive the right impact from this idea
Although saying all that my cousin won a fish at tthe fairground and put it with some other fish in his outdoor pond and it’s true what they say - it grew to over 5 times its original size. It’s a shame he forgot to put the net back down after cleaning them out and the local herin swooped down and gobbled them up!

My friend and neighbour owns a rabbit and he is massive and cuddly and has long floppy ears - I have no idea which breed he is though.
I did have the pleasure of feeding him whilst she went away on holiday and although he was a bit nervous about someone new opening his cage - when he realised it was food coming his way he soon got used to me.
I’m pleased to say too that he does get the run of the garden regularly so he gets a bit of exercise and freedom rather than being couped up in a cage all day.

My son absolutely adores animals and if I were to arrive home one night with a small puppy or kitten in my arms he would be over the moon.
However, we only live in a 2 bedroom house and I’m out a work full time so the poor thing would be at home alone for the majority of the time.
A dog is out of the question - my son, as much as he’d give a puppy lots of love and attention - picking up after it would definately not happen!
A cat maybe? My experience with cats isn’t great - the time my parents cat bit my toe and made it bleed is still etched in my mind. However, I do think that having the resposnibility of looking after a cat would benefit my son a great deal. This is something I’m going to have to think about though before I go rushing into it!

There are wide selections of snakes all over the world some of these are venomous and could kill and others are harmless and could keep as pets.
The three most common types of snakes you will find as pets in the common house hols include:
Corn snake. This is the most common type of snake that people tend to get as pets if they don’t know a whole lot about taking care of a snake. That’s because this snake is considered to be the most domesticated of snakes. It’s an easy breed to care for and it acclimates to a variety of climates so it’s the kind of snake that you can get even if you only plan to learn the bare minimum about taking care of your snake.
Kingsnake. At first glance you might think that this snake is a vicious snake because the “king” in its name comes from the fact that this snake will eat other snakes in the wild. They’ll also eat them in some cases if they’re caged together so you only want to get one of these. Despite this tendency, the kingsnake is a good pet snake that is fairly easy to take care of. It’s slightly longer than the corn snake but it’s also a thin snake.
Ball python. Those people who are seeking to get a big fat snake probably have something like a python in mind. The only downside to this snake is that it requires more attention than the other ones on the list because of a tendency to refuse food for long periods of time which causes it to get ill. This isn’t a major problem but does mean you need to watch it during feeding time.

I often hear people asking what the difference is between red and blue nose pit bulls and which one is the better dog to have.
To be honest there is no difference. Its all about the dogs genetics. Really i have seen red nosed short and muscular pitbull. I have seen lean blue nosed pitbulls. I have a blue nose pitt and some of my friends have red nosed and they are not much difference is size and build. Red nose usually have red nose tan skin green eyes blue nose usually are a blue grey colour.
I would recommend that if you were to buy one of these dogs you do your research and make sure that the breeder is established to get a good healthy breed.

Over the last few years we have heard some terrible stories regarding dog that have mauled children and adults in some cases casing death.
The 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act imposed severe restrictions on these four breeds American Pit Bull terriers, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Braziliero. The act also covers dogs that have the physical characteristics of these breeds, or that are partly bred out of any of the named breeds.
In my opinion i have been around many of these dogs especially the pitbulls and i don’t think it is right to ban the dogs more the owners that abuse them and make them fight and attack other.

As it gets closer to Christmas their always seems to be an increase in the number of animals going into the shelters the most sad thing about it is its usually the older animals.
This could be due to people making way for new animals for Christmas such as puppies and kittens however animals are for life and should not be treated as pets for a short while until you get board or want something new.
If you are looking for a pet i would strongly recommend you take a trip down do the shelters first to see if you could offer a new home to these animals.

Most people love dogs and often there is one in every family and so growing up with a family dog usually leads you to having that respect for them and not being afraid of them, however there are certain breeds which make great family dogs these include:
· Cocker Spaniel
· Rough Collie
· Golden Retriever
· Labrador
· Border terrier
This is just a short list of some well known family dogs. Of course their many be many more out there and the key thing to many of them is the training you give then and the environment you live in as these aspect s can affect their behaviour.

I am the proud owner of 3 new chickens; the chickens are about 8 months old and are starting to produce some lovely eggs. I have had the chickens for about 4 months now and I am really getting attached to them, there really lovely and can be quite calming after a day at work.
My chickens are kept in quite a sturdy shed and it would be quite difficult for a fox to get hold of them but I am really paranoid. I am worried that I will come down in the morning and they will be missing or have been attacked.
A couple of weeks ago I could hear the chickens making a lot of noise in the early morning so I grabbed my torch and no battery supply. I had to go out in the dark and check if they were ok, or to see if anything was lurking. It turns out that they just wanted to play out and had woken up early. I wasn’t best pleased but I was relieved that I didn’t have any dead chickens.
Overall the chickens have been great to have over the last 4 months and have been producing about 15 eggs a week, which is great and the neighbours love it too.
come to us.
